Adam is normally a fun and goofy guy, but don’t be fooled, his cycling classes are grueling and intense! Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Adam grew up cycling and raced competitively while in high school. After a long hiatus, Adam attended a Biker Barre class in the dead of a D.C. winter and rediscovered his passion for the bike. Adam loves teaching an energetic class fueled by pop and classic rock beats. He encourages his clients to cheer, howl, and scream to build energy throughout class. Outside of teaching group cycling, Adam spends his days as a video producer for university-level educational media.
Alison McCubbin started at Biker Barre as a barre-obsessed student in the very first class in 2012, and found that classes here were different than anywhere else. They were not only amazing, but amazingly FUN! Born and raised in Oklahoma City, she moved to D.C. after graduating from The University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!). And while she appreciates her Southern roots, you probably won’t be hearing any country music in her class. She prefers to get you pulsing and tucking to what she likes to call “hipster dance music”…with a little bit of Whitney Houston (what kind of 80’s baby would she be if there was NO Whitney?!). Alison has tried everything – boxing, Pilates, Zumba, you name it – but found that barre transforms your body in a way that no other workout can – and she can’t wait to prove it to you! When she's not tucking left - right - left- right with you at the barre studio, she's busy selling houses as a Realtor in D.C.!
It didn’t take long for Allie to become a barre addict. It was a perfect way to de-stress and get strong at the end of a long day. She loved how even after months of classes she could still push herself mentally and physically in each class to improve her form or sink one inch lower to challenge herself. Allie finds the best way to keep engaged in exercise is to mix it up so you don’t get bored. Allie is always looking for new ways to keep pushing your limits and keep you on your toes! (Awful pun intended). Outside of teaching, Allie can be found keeping District Taco in business (yum!) or in Lincoln Park playing with stranger’s dogs -until she can get her own!
Allison's classes are full of tough love. She'll push you, guiding you through the workout using imagery, musicality, and energy. Her class is not just a workout; it's an experience. Her music selection will range from Michael Jackson to Eminem to Beyonce to Red Hot Chili Peppers to the Who. Anything - save for Country - is possible! If she isn't teaching, she is probably right next to you in another class at Biker Barre, whipping up some new recipe she found online, or out on the town soaking up every inch of DC.
If you're in need of a wake-up call, Allison P.'s class will take you from sleepyhead to bright-eyed and bushytailed. She loves a good mashup (Nelly and the Bee Gees, anyone?) and Top 40 that you can sing along to, and there's no wasting time in her class--your heart will pound from start to finish. When not spinning on the bike, Allison P.--a Washington-area native--is spinning the news as a press secretary on Capitol Hill.
One fateful summer morning, Billy was dragged to Barre class by Stephen and BAM!...he was hooked. Born and raised outside of Memphis, TN, Billy moved to DC to attend the George Washington University. Since graduating in 2012 with a degree in dance, Billy has always kept his eyes open for opportunities to use the skills he learned while at school (his roommates will tell you that they have to yell at him about prancing around the house, so barre has become a great outlet). With a love for a good stretch, he'll have you doing the splits in no time! Outside of teaching at Biker Barre, Billy spends his time working at the Kennedy Center, for a local dance company, and getting involved in various performances throughout the year.
Los Angeles native Charmaine Chan moved to DC five years ago after graduating from the University of Michigan. As a former cheerleader, choreo/hip hop dancer and even a rugby player, you can say Charmaine has a passion for sports and fitness. She has always been in pursuit of the perfect workout. From spinning to Bollywood dancing, she has done it all. However, the discovery of barre has transformed her workout routine. She loves that the method makes working out fun and is never the same. Charmaine enjoys barre so much, she wants to share it with the rest of DC. When she is not working out, you’ll find Charmaine planning her next big trip and seeking good food and wine with friends in the city. She can’t wait to see you all in class!
Chelsea discovered barre by accident after passing Red Bow Studio on the way to her office. Fast forward to today and she's given up the office job to freelance and attempt a writing career. She learned how to teach yoga in the process, but don't let her zen fool you. Her upbeat barre classes will challenge your core and her humor will keep you smiling. When she's not holding students forever in plank, she keeps busy parenting her two boys, finding new wines and working on her latest novel.
After competing in a few marathons, Christine went to her first spinning class to change things up, and was instantly hooked. A former college athlete, she channels her enthusiasm for cardio into a fun and intense workout for riders ready to take their fitness to the next level. Her cool moves mixed with hot beats will push you to your limits making you leave happy, sweaty, and ready for the next ride!
Christine is a new DC resident hailing from the Lone Star State. She found barre a little over a year ago when she was visiting her family in Texas and was instantly hooked! As a former pole vaulter, Christine understands that your core is your strongest asset and will be sure to have those abs screaming by the end of her class. Expect to hear a wide variety of upbeat songs in her classes, including country, oldies, and today's top hits. Teaching barre is a nice break for Christine, who is a second grade teacher by day. She says, "it's nice that the adults listen to what I tell them to do the first time...well, most of the time anyways." :)
Concetta Aires loves a good dance party and that’s exactly what she wants her classes to feel like. She’ll mix in music from across the spectrum as long as it gets her classes moving and having fun. When she’s not spinning, she’s hanging with her daughter, Kennedy, building her business, Well Dressed Mamma, decorating/redecorating her house or enjoying a glass of wine over a delicious dinner.
Danielle's barre classes reflect the forumla that got her hooked: an emphasis on form + having fun= visable results. Danielle began ballet barre in 2011. She hoped that it would be an effective and enjoyable way to get "bridal buff." Danielle quickly found that it was and became a regular at Red Bow, then Biker Barre. Wake up or wind down your day with her as you tuck and pulse to music ranging from Spanish pop (a nod to her college major), Motown's best (thanks, Dad), and the top 20 of yesterday and today. When not at the barre, Danielle can be found working on procurement law issues, traveling with her husband, or playing fetch with their puppy.
Devyn first started working at Biker Barre’s front desk to get in shape and to procrastinate from studying for grad school. Biker Barre's instructors and clients became an extended family and spin quickly became her sanctuary from full days of classes and studying. Devyn wants her spin students to find a similar escape through her classes. When she isn’t at Biker Barre, Devyn can be found providing speech therapy for elementary and middle school students at a Kipp school in Anacostia. If you hear the nae-nae in Devyn's class, you can bet that a student had a say in that week’s playlist.
Emily's motto is "You made it to class…now make it worth it!" Her class is a motivating and challenging group effort, and she will work her butt off right alongside you. Using resistance from the bike and rhythm from a beat-driven playlist, Emily guides riders as they “power through it." After pushing your physical and mental limits, you will leave class feeling accomplished and strong. Translation: you will leave class a sweaty mess and ready for more! Outside of the Biker Barre studio, Emily works in health care research & policy, and leads outdoor “burpee-thon” bootcamp classes as a NASM certified personal trainer around Cap Hill.
As one of the first front desk staff at Biker Barre in 2012, Grace immediately fell in love with both spin and barre. Originally teaching spin, she eventually found adult ballet and transitioned to full-time barre teaching. Grace teaches all variations of class - the breather, mini, cardio and open barre. Her classes are fast-paced, core-focused with an emphasis form and precision. Expect a variety of musical genres, most especially music you won't hear on the radio. When she's not teaching on Capitol Hill in the summer over the Christmas holidays, she is a full time student at the University of St Andrews Scotland studying International Relations.
Harry can't WAIT to have you join him and some of his favorite ladies - Britney, Kelly & Madonna, that is - in his bike class. His rides are sure to be as rowdy as that bar mitzvah you went to back in the 90s, or that night at Nellie's you're hoping to sweat out. His classes are energy packed and dancing heavy. When not spinning, Harry can be found organizing and advocating for international human rights at his day job, or checking out that newest iphone dating app.
Want a serious workout without all of the seriousness? Come to Jane'sclass. She'll (try to) make you laugh through the shaking using basic movements taken to an extreme. Expect lots of music you love, but haven't heard in a while (think 80s and 90s), music you don't admit you love but do (uh, basically the same), and stuff you don't even know you love yet (a potpourri). A reformed politico (politica?) and lawyer, Jane now spends her non-Biker Barre time buying clothes to dress her baby girl up in, dressing up her baby girl, and explaining to her husband why something so small needs so many different outfits.
Get ready to sweat. The harder the class, the better! Jessi promises a challenging workout, with lots of energy and bit of swag. That's Kelly H., and what you see is what you get in her classes: fast-paced, form-focused barre work to an indie rock soundtrack. Kelly teaches open and express barre classes, and is part of the creative force behind the barre breather. You'll find her at Biker Barre most days of the week, so drop in for a class that's one-part bunhead, two-parts Radiohead, and will get all your parts shaking!
